Get ahead

種族歧視除了影響到給警察如何對待外，還會影響取得成功的機會（chances of getting ahead）。不同種族、文化背景的人，都有好人和壞人，實在不應強加上模式化的看法。

短語動詞（phrasal verb）get ahead解「獲得成功」，比其他人更成功或進步得更快。Get ahead常後接介詞in，指出在哪方面或在哪裏取得成功。例句︰Working hard is the only way to get ahead in this business.（在這項業務中，取得成功的唯一途徑就是努力。）Receiving a good education will definitely help you to get ahead in this country.（接受良好的教育肯定會幫助你在這個國家取得成功。）

單字ahead都可以有「領先、勝過」的意思，常用於描述比賽或競爭。例句︰The Soviets remained ahead in space exploration in the early 1960s.（在1960年代初期，蘇聯在太空探索方面一直處於領先地位。）Her language ability is way ahead of many other children of her age.（她的語言能力勝過許多同齡的孩子。）
